Tinder is introducing a new “Blind Date” feature that differs from the dating app’s usual left or right swipe: this time, you must chat with other users before you can see how they look.

Blind Date is the newest addition to Tinder’s Fast Chat lineup, including in-app experiences such as Hot Takes and Swipe Night. Users will be paired based on what they have in common, answer prompts, and play games with the feature. If both users decide to match, they will be able to see each other’s photos for the first time.

Tinder users respond to timed questions / prompts such as “It’s OK to wear a shirt times without washing it” or “I put ketchup on .” If their response does not impress you, you have the option of pairing with someone else.

Tinder says the app “reflects the modern dating habits of Gen Z… and also taps into their ’90s nostalgia” and is designed to be “low-pressure.” Tinder claims that during the feature’s early testing phase, users made 40% more matches than its other Fast Chat features, including profiles and images, increasing a user’s chances of meeting someone they would otherwise overlook.

The new feature is now available to US Tinder users, and it will be available to global users in the “coming weeks.”
