4 Incredible developer tools that you should start using right now

Working smarter, not harder is one of the most important lessons to learn as a software developer. One of the best ways to follow this rule is to use tools that increase your productivity and simplify your work-life. Today, we’ll look at 4 different tools that you may or may not have heard of but can definitely boost your productivity.

Discover four incredible tools for developers that you may not be aware of but should be. These tools will assist you in increasing your productivity.

  1. Bundle Phobia

This is a web application development tool that allows you to see how much an NPM package would increase the size of your overall bundle. If you’re using a modern front-end framework, you’ll want to keep the bundle size as small as possible to improve the initial page load for new customers. Simply enter the package name into bundle phobia to assess the addition of a new dependency to your project and you can even input your whole package JSON to view all of your dependencies ranked by size. It will tell you the bundle size, download time, and a bunch of other information for every single version of that package.

2. Cloud Craft
Cloud Craft is presently only available for Amazon Web Services (AWS), although If you mostly use GCP, it’s still useful and provides a very intuitive drag-and-drop interface that allows you to connect different cloud infrastructure services together. Not only is this great for planning, but it’s also great for budgeting. Once you have your infrastructure in place, you can go to the budget tab and it will give you an estimated breakdown of your total cost. Because all of the major clouds have similar pricing models, the actual results will translate pretty well to Azure and GCP.

3. VisBug
It’s a tool that allows you to interact visually with your website. We have this toolbar over on the left side with these pink lions hovering all over the different Dom elements on the site. There’s a lot of different things we can do here, we can measure elements, move things around, change their style, and do everything live in the browser without leaving it. Instead of rewriting all of that CSS, you can just copy and paste it from the inspector. Another feature is that you can search for a specific type of element. For example, if you want to find all of the links on the page, you can just search for them and they’ll all be highlighted in pink. The plugin does take some getting used to, but once you do, it will save you a lot of time.

4. Insomnia
Insomnia is a very useful API whether you’re building a REST API or a graph QL API, this app will help you keep your entire workflow organized. It allows you to save reusable values that you can go back and use as you debug your API because you don’t want to be spending your time rewriting tedious HTTP requests every day, and it also has a beautiful and well laid out UI. For example, we might want to create a new request for the SpaceX graph QL and the power of graph QL paired with insomnia just offers you an amazing overall developer experience. All we have to do now is start typing out our query, and we’ll receive this awesome intelligence for anything we type.
